New Business Models for Intelligent Transport Systems - NEWBITS

The Intelligent Transport Systems (ITS) consist an important integrating part of the European Common Transport Policy (CTP) and Europe 2020 Strategy. As the 2011 White Paper on Transport (EC, 2011a) claims, ITS can significantly contribute to a cleaner, safer and more efficient transport system, being a key element for increasing the efficiency of transport and of infrastructure use with information systems. Within the European transport research, innovation and deployment strategy, ITS are specifically mentioned in relation to: the deployment of smart mobility systems, applications in support of eco-driving and large scale intelligent and interoperable technologies to optimize the capacity and the use of infrastructure.

NEWBITS: New Business Models for Intelligent Transport Systems, is a Coordinated and Support Action project funded under the EC Programme Horizon 2020. Its aim is to provide further understanding of the changing conditions and dynamics that affect and influence the deployment of ITS innovations. This improved understanding will contribute to minimizing the failures inherent to ITS innovation diffusion, evolve present business models and identify effective (policy) incentives to accelerate ITS deployment.

NEWBITS, published recently its first press release illustrating the findings of its first study concerning barriers, enablers and KPis for the implementation of ITS services.
